How Long Does Drywall Installation Take in Fort Worth?

Drywall work involves multiple stages that have to happen in sequence, and each stage has its own drying time. Understanding the timeline helps you plan your schedule and set realistic expectations.
Stage 1: Hanging the Drywall
The first stage is the physical installation , measuring, cutting, and fastening drywall sheets to the wall framing or ceiling joists. This is the fastest stage of the process.
For a standard bedroom (roughly 12×12 with 8-foot ceilings), experienced installers can hang the drywall in two to four hours. A full single-story house of around 1,500 square feet typically takes one to two days for a two-person crew.

Stage 2: Taping and First Coat
Once the drywall is hung, the seams between panels and all fastener heads are covered with joint compound (mud), and paper or fiberglass tape is embedded in the seams. This is where the skill level of the contractor starts to show , tape that’s properly embedded and smoothed now will feather out cleanly in later coats.

Stage 3: Second Coat

Stage 4: Third Coat and Final Sanding

Stage 6: Priming and Paint Prep
After the final sanding, the walls need to be primed before painting. Can You Speed It Up?
- The drying times are the hardest constraint to accelerate. Using ‘hot mud’ (a faster-setting compound) can compress the early stages, but it’s harder to work with and not suitable for final coats.
